Draft Air Quality Action Plan Consultation

Draft Air Quality Action Plan Consultation

Air Quality

As in most areas of the UK, the main pollutants of concern in the Blaby District are associated with road traffic especially nitrogen dioxide and fine particulate matter at locations close to busy, congested roads where people may live or work. The trend for Blaby District is encouraging and air pollutant concentrations experienced an overall decrease in 2023 compared to 2022.

Blaby District Council has launched an eight week consultation on the new draft Air Quality Action Plan (AQAP) which will run from the end of this year until 2029.

It replaces the 2021 - 2025 plan which saw significant progress in tackling pollution hotspots along busy traffic corridors.

In this new document, the Council sets out priorities such as promoting electric vehicles, fostering behaviour change, encouraging active travel and ensuring its own regulatory and enforcement powers are used to prevent pollution.

The draft AQAP can be viewed below.

Anyone who would like to comment on the draft action plan should contact environmental.services@blaby.gov.uk
