Local Community Marks 80th Anniversary of VE Day with Beacon Lighting Ceremony
The local community gathered in a moving ceremony last night to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day. The highlight of the evening was the lighting of a beacon and a symbolic "Lamp of Peace," celebrating eight decades since the end of conflict in Europe during World War II.
A special note of appreciation was extended to two cadets from the local 2070 Air Training Corps (ATC) Squadron, who were given the honour of lighting the beacon and lamp as part of the proceedings. Their participation inspired pride and reflected the commitment of local young people to remembering this pivotal moment in history.
As part of the commemoration, a tree was planted on site—a living tribute intended to mark the occasion for generations to come and to symbolize hope and peace for the future.
The Parish Council express their gratitude to all who attended the event and contributed to making the evening a memorable and fitting tribute to those who served and sacrificed during World War II.
